Methodology


The Workplace Barometer survey was completed by 166 organisations during the period February through April 2008. Reponses were gathered using a combined approach of online surveys and face to face interviews conducted by staff from Chandler Macleod Consulting. All responses were provided anonymously.

74% of responding contacts were HR Managers or HR Directors with the remaining responses largely being drawn from line management and with 7% of responses coming Board level respondents. The vast majority of responding organisations conducted recruitment activity internally, with 71% of respondents indicating that recruitment was conducted in-house. 7%, or 12 of the responding organisations had wholly outsourced their recruitment needs, with 3% conducting their recruitment through an imbedded outsourced agreement.

With regards responsibility for recruitment, 56% of responding organisations highlighted the HR function, whilst 35% indicated that  the line management functions were accountable for recruitment.

Responding organisations were drawn from across Australia, with NSW at 46% of respondents and VIC with 26% of respondents. Industrial sectors were varied and ranged from Mining and resources through to Hospitality, demonstrating a wide ranging sample of industry types.
